The AVIARY GALLERY
Nic Acaster is a professional artist based in Sussex. Previously, a founder member of Brighton’s Artist Quarter, where she repurposed a fishermen’s arch into a studio/gallery. Her practice has always been driven by sustainable ethics with a natural affinity to find and repurpose old wooden structures.
In 2016 she decommissioned a clinker-built Hastings fishing boat called, ‘Rosie Haze RX320’. This was a changeable project that gave her lots of interesting and beautiful materials to preserve and produce artwork with..
Nic's sculptures are made from reclaimed Farleys Barn timber and RX320’s tar soaked elm planking, oak ribs, copper nails, and roves.
Each piece has been created through sketching, painting, and collecting ideas from nature. All individually crafted to preserve the impression of the bird, the woods curves, structure, and the remnants of RX320’s journeys at sea.
The ‘Aviary Gallery’ is located adjacent to ‘Farleys House and Sculpture Garden’ (home to the late photographer Lee Miller). With Charleston Farmhouse near by our location makes us the perfect destination for art lovers looking to spend a day exploring the Sussex countryside.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during our opening hours.
